(Inter)National Scrapbook Day has come and gone. I had planned on spending the day making my mom’s Mother’s Day card, like I did last year, but we had unexpected visitors Saturday morning that took up a large chunk of the day. I could have started it that afternoon, but I’d recently made some new resin castings from some recently purchased moulds, so I decided to have a play with mixed media instead.
I started with a papier mache heart that I painted with black gesso. I took the resin pieces I wanted to use, along with some metal flowers, wings and crown from Tim Holtz and painted them with black gesso as well. I used Heavy Body Gel to attach everything everything to the heart and left it to dry overnight.
To add color, I started with the Mint Sparkle and Peacock waxes by Prima, blending the two colors over all the elements and the back of the heart.
I added just a bit of Old Denim wax to the wings as well, for a bit of depth. Then, I went over the raised surfaces with the Vintage Gold wax to bring out the details.
To finish the piece, I used Glossy Accents to adhere some Swarovski crystals here and there to add some sparkle.
Thanks for stopping by! Wish me luck on getting my Mother’s Day card done on time!
